Just Another Saturday Night by Kate: Dan and Gwen fight their feelings for one another

Dan stays with Regan while Mr. Maypenny is in Maine visiting his nephew David. As part of a secret mission, Regan asks Dan to return Trixie's book to Crabapple Farm, where Dan volunteers to run to the lake for Bobby's scarf when Mrs. Belden says he left it there, and finds himself at his own surprise party celebrating the anniversary of his joining the bobwhites. Gwen drives back from a weekend with her Delaware friends in New York City for the party but plans to return when the party breaks up. Dan walks her to her car, she offers him a ride home and he kisses her before getting out of the car. Regan isn't coming home that night but Gwen later shows up on the steps to talk with Dan.
